Coach Delaney has a new starter at quarterback this year, and a new plan for his offense this season.
"We look a little different this year, we run the football quite a bit. We do have a new quarterback and we looking for him to lead us and make some plays. We going to have a bunch of new guys running the ball," Delaney told Two on Your Side Stu Boyar before the Lions Ad Pro All Star Game.
Coach Delaney led the South all stars to a 37 21 win over the North on July 31st, at Orchard Park High School. As for South Park this season, with a new quarterback and different offensive schemes, Coach Delaney has an idea which side of the ball will be stronger. "I think we going to be very, very good on the defensive side of the football but we look to be strong all over the place," Delaney said.
When taking a closer look at the schedule, Coach Delaney breaks down the competition this season. And right from the beginning, it seems South Park is in for a challenge. "We open up with Hutch Tech, we haven played Hutch Tech in a few years with the Harvard Cup not being in place. They always big and physical up front so we looking forward to the first game. We actually play Saturday afternoon so there won be many games going on so hopefully we get a few people out there," Delaney explained.
After Hutch Tech, the opponents don seem to get any easier."Next week we go back to Iroquois they beat us in a high scoring game last year and then we have a non league against Jamestown which should be one of the top Western New York programs this year so we looking forward to the challenge there," Delaney pointed out.
Fans won have to wait long for the big rivalry game, it happens the very first game of the season. Coach Delaney points out how he believes Hutch Tech is their big rival. "Week one against Hutch Tech with that being our city game, you know rekindle a little bit from a few years back. They beat us the last couple times we played them so we looking forward to be able to open up the season against them," Delaney said.
Once again, South Park beings the 2013 season at home against Hutch Tech on September 7th at 4pm.
