Participating in high impact activities, like running or dancing, can also increase the chances of a neuroma forming. People with flatfeet, bunions, hammertoes or excessive flexibility may have their feet move abnormally causing excessive pressure.

At the start, the pain and numbness will only occur after irritating activities like wearing high heals or participating in activities that put extra pressure on the ball of the foot. However, over time the symptoms will continue to get worse and may not go away for hours, days or weeks after an aggravating activity.
