I have dogs and cats. Ive caught two of my dogs eating cat feces as well. Weve put up a gate inside to keep them away from the litter boxes at least, but have no way of making sure they dont eat cat feces from the yard. When i do catch them, i brush their teeth very well. This may sound obvious, but please wear shoes when in your backyard. You might step in feces from your pets, stray cats, or even your neighbors cats. At least if you are wearing shoes, you can remove them before going inside and/or washing them off without tracking it inside your home. Ive read that we must wash our hands after petting our kitties everytime and again before we eat anything or prepare food. Good luck!

I read that if you have indoor/outdoor cats and you’ve been around them for a long period of time you probably aren’t at too much of a risk for it. But we’re playing it "better safe than sorry" with the litter box. The main concern, I read, is if the cats eat rodents since they are what carries it.

As far as dogs eating the kitty poo, I don’t know what you can do except try to keep it picked up in the yard??? Wear disposable gloves and wash your hands WELL. And I agree with pp about wearing shoes, although I’m always wearing shoes outside for fear of stepping on the big bumble bees that live in the grass.
