Hi, my name is Janet, I’m a personal trainer with Metamorphosis, and today I’m going to talk about barefoot exercises for men. The benefits of exercising barefoot is that it increases your awareness. It increases your balance and it also strengthens the muscles and the tendons in your feet. You can do really any exercise barefoot. There are also barefoot shoes available these days which are really, really terrific if you are going to be exercising barefoot and you are going to be outside. They allow your foot to move with a natural range of motion. But they give you a sole on the bottom of your shoe so that you don’t step on really sharp rocks and dirt, and hurt yourself while you are running, walking, or doing exercises. These are really beneficial shoes if you are willing to make the investment. So check those out. And here’s a great exercise to do indoors with bare feet. It’s a one leg lunge. So you are going to take one foot and you are going to put it up on the bench behind you. Then what you are going to do is stabilize yourself with your hands giving yourself extra balance. And this is why the bare foot comes into play. As you can really feel the way your foot is gripping the floor. And the way it’s shifting your body weight around to balance you. If you want to add challenge to this you can hold dumbbells hanging down at your side. Or have a barbell across your back. Then what you want to do is take this foot and step out with it just a little bit. And you also want it to be slightly off center so that you have a little better balance. And then all you are going to do is squat down. You are going to bring this knee that’s up on the bench towards the floor. And you are going to straighten back up again. Squat down, lift up. Squat down and lift up. So your sensory perception without shoes on is you are much more aware where your feet are and how they’re helping you to do this exercise.
