My Evan just learned two wheels last year when our daughter was born. thing I’ve seen help children get the idea of riding the bike though is to put the seat down low, and let the child "Walk" the bike. After awhile, it gets easier to balance on it, and before you know it they’ll be flying everywhere on it. have these really neat bikes I’d love to get for my daughter called Strider bikes. They don’t have pedals, just foot rests, but you should see how fast these kids can whip around, and at 2 and 3 years of age. It’s amazing to see how well they can utilize these, faster then any preschooler can go on a tricycle. being able to learn balance is the number one obstacle, and if they don’t have to use their pedals, and can just use their feet to move around, eventually they’ll figure it out. for tying the shoes my Evan has no interest in even trying. He gets easily frustrated, so won’t even attempt it unless I force it. can’t imagine he’ll be going off to college not knowing how to tie his shoes though, and he doesn’t have the "uncool" problem either. He just got a new pair of Ben 10 shoes to start school with next month.

My son can tie his shoes but he can’t ride a bike. He has outgrown two bikes and the one he just got is too big and the training wheels stayed on. He plays outside but never wants to ride his bike hence not much practice. Dh and I tried a few times and he just didn’t have the balance or much of a desire to learn to ride. Even though ds can tie his shoes they always seem to be untied anyway. Last year I got on him because every time I picked him up from school, his shoes were untied. He even was playing and ran out of one and fell down. Until he protests, we bought him velcro shoes. Sketchers makes some cool shoes with no ties.
