The annual Pirates on the Run 5K/10K returns to Fernandina Beach on Saturday, Feb. 6, with colorful pirates, a pancake breakfast and a scenic course that includes the Egans Creek Greenway.

Preregistered runners will also receive a long sleeve T shirt with original pirate artwork by local artist Paul Massing. Post race door prizes will include a two night stay at the new Residence Inn Amelia Island.

The race will start at St. About a mile of the 5K and four miles of the 10K will be on the unpaved nature trail. The out and back route will finish on 11th Street near Central Park, where Fernandina Pirate Club members will greet finishers and hand out Mardi Gras beads.

Runners will be electronically timed using ChampionChips. Awards will be given to the top male and female overall, masters (age 40 and older) and grandmasters (50 and older), plus the top three finishers in each of 15 age groups, ranging from 10 and younger to 75 and older.

Race registration will be $20 through Sunday, Jan. 31, or $15 for members of Amelia Island Runners, the local running club that organizes the event. From Monday, Feb. 1, through race day, registration will be $25 for everyone. The fee for the children’s fun runs will be $10 through race day.

Registered runners will get a free pancake breakfast after the race at St. Peter’s. For non entrants, the breakfast will be $5.
