One railway official was charred to death and another sustained burn injuries. The deceased has been identified as Bhagwan Das, a permanent wage railway supervisor. The injured person Saket Bansal, deputy station superintendent, has suffered 70% burns and is in a critical condition. The railway officials said that Bansal had been referred to Bhopal for further treatment.The incident took place at around 9 am when two school going siblings along with their parents tried to cross the railway track through a stationed goods train. "The children were hit by an express train on the adjoining track as soon as they came out," Rajeev Chaudhary, divisional railway manager told TOI.An angry mob thronged the station after the incident. Bansal and three others locked themselves inside a room, said sources. However, the villagers locked the room from outside and set it on fire. They also caused damage to the railway tracks by removing fishplates.A tehsildar who tried to control the mob was also attacked. Several goods and passenger trains on the route were affected.The DRM said that the villagers had been demanding for a foot over bridge to cross the railway tracks. "This station does not fulfill standard norms for a bridge, so our application for the same was rejected," he said.The officer also said that he had received a call from an influential person claiming that he has three rescued railway staff who were shifted to a safe room.
